Selma Blair was born on June 23rd 1972 in Southfield Michigan. She is the daughter of Molly Ann and Judge and Elliot Beitner. She is the youngest of four daughters. Selma’s’ sisters include Katherine, a book publicist, Elizabeth and Marie. Selma attended Hillel Day School, which is a Jewish day school in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Then she went on to attend the Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Selma then went to the Kalamazoo College in Michigan and then transferred to the University of Michigan to earn her bachelor’s degree in 1994. Selma trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting and began her acting career in the middle of the 1990′s. Her acting career started off in television with small roles and guest roles on television series.
It was in the 1999 film Cruel Intentions with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe that brought her to our attention. Selma won the MTV Movie Award for the Best Lesbian Kiss for her role in Cruel Intentions. From 1999 to 2000 Selma took the part of Zoe Bean in the television series Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane. She was a part of the cast for two seasons. In 2001 Selma made the comedy hit Legally Blonde, again she starred with Reese Witherspoon. In 2002 she appeared in Highway and in 2003 took a role in Dallas 362. One of Selma’s most recognized roles is Liz Sherman in Hellboy from 2004. She revisited this role in 2008 for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Selma played a role in the series Kath & Kim, which was based on the Australian series with the same name. Selma has amassed a good body of work and has projects coming up during 2010. We will keep you posted.
