The American actress Selma Blair was born on the 23rd of June, 1972.  Selma was born Selma Blair Beitner in Southfield in the State of Michigan.  She is the daughter of Mollly Ann, who is a judge and Elliot Beitner.  Selma is the youngest of four daughters to the couple.  Her schooling includes attending Hillel Day School, a Jewish day school in Michigan and Cranbrook Kingswood school in Bloomfield Hills in Michigan.  Selma also attended the Kalamazoo College in Michigan, she transferred from Kalamazoo to the University of Michigan and finished a bachelor’s degree during 1994.

Selma trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting before beginning her career. She began with smaller roles on television before becoming famous for her role in the internationally famous film Cruel Intentions. Selma starred alongside actors that included Sarah Michelle Gellar, famous for her role as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Reese Wtiherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. This was the role that lead to Selma becoming a well known celebrity in both in the United States and internationally. Her subsequent role in the television series Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane, which ran from 1999 to 2000 cemented her place as a film and television celebrity in the United States.

In 2001 Selma joined with Reese Witherspoon again for the comedy Legally Blonde. This was another great success story for Selma. One of her most famous roles to date is that of Liz Sherman in Hellboy from 2004 and Hellboy II: The Golden Army from 2008. We look forward to seeing Selma again in 2010 as she is currently filming Columbus Circle in which she plays the role of Abigail.

2010 sees Selma Blair starring in a new movie. The Columbus Circle has a budget of ten million dollars, and is being directed by George Gallo. The film is an independent thriller which is co written by George Gallo, director, and Kevin Pollak.

Along with Selma, Giovanni Ribisi, Beau Bridges, Amy Smart, Jason Lee and Kevin Pollak star in The Columbus Circle. Selma plays the role of Abigail, a reclusive heiress who has shut herself inside her apartment building for nearly twenty years. Abigail is then brought face to face with her fears as one of her neighbors is killed and she is involved in the investigation.

When the original apartment block resident dies, Abigail gets new neighbors. She begins to here strange sounding activities from these new neighbors across the hallway. Abigail comes to the aid of her new neighbor, Lillian after the husband leaves her half dead. A unique friendship starts to develop. This is the first new relationship Abigail has had since childhood. In time, Abigail realizes that this is not really a friendship and that the relationship is a scheme to steal her identity and wealth. It is a scheme to take all that is important to the agoraphobic heiress.

Giovanni Ribisi plays one of the detectives and Jason Antoon is Detective Jerry Eaans. Amy Smart plays the role of a new neighbor in the building as does Jason Less. Kevin Pollak takes the role of Klandermann, the buildings concierge. Beau Bridges is Dr Raymond Fontaine and Abigail’s only confidant. Samm Levine is the bank manager and Robert Guillaume plays the role of Howard Miles. The Columbus Circle is currently being filmed in Los Angeles. This is a great new role for Selma and is a much anticipated film.

She revisited this role in 2008 for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Selma played a role in the series Kath & Kim, which was based on the Australian series with the same name. Two years later she appeared in Cruel Intentions which was another block buster hit where she played a strong support role as one of the main characters. Selma also got to be a part of the Xena Warrior Princess series where she was seen in one of the episodes. In Legally Blonde 2001 she played the bad girl for the beginning of the movie and then turned nice towards the end. She was also lucky enough to appear in the series of Friends along with all the other characters in the Friends show. This was unfortunately only a one off showing for her. In Hellboy she was a real go getting foxy lady that was dating the main character of Hellboy who was not exactly human. She kicked some ass in many of the fight scenes and had the special power of being able to set herself on fire. In Hellboy II she was also the main character which was another great movie for Selma to be a part of.

If there is one actress that has the looks to pull off some of the more difficult acting roles to fill then Selma Blair would be the best pick out of the entire bunch. With some already big name movies under her belt you will see that Selma is one girl that will make a further big impression on the streets of Hollywood because not only is she picture perfect to look at in every way but she is also a very talented actress. In Hellboy, Selma looks great in her all black outfit being a misfit in society because she has special powers. Her looks and deep staring eyes are the perfect match to this dark part which she acts in very well.

I would like to think that we are going to see more of Selma over the next few years as she makes more and more top shelf and reputable movies that will no doubt be sensations for many years to come. In the movie cruel intensions you see Selma play the role of one of the mean characters that likes to make the lives of everyone else a living hell but she does it with a sense of humor and talent that says she would never be like that in person.

Because Selma is such a big name celebrity you will find her in many websites with blogs about her, pictures of her and wallpaper that you can leave on your computer screen. Once she becomes even more of a star then there may even be little Selma dolls that the fans can buy to take home and put with the rest of their Hollywood stars memorabilia.
